My daughter and I dug up some worms from our garden and I did a "show and share" via my cell cam!
We talked about safe handling of worms...the oils and lotions on our skin can harm them so we should always wash our hands first and use a wet hand to hold them. And just let them wriggle around, don't poke them or pull them or squish them..be kind!
Story Time...Unite for Literacy
We talked about how, instead of sending our food scraps away in the green bin, we can set up our own vermicomposter at home!! https://www.fix.com/blog/composting-with-worms/www.fix.com/blog/composting-with-worms/

We talked about habitats and how humans are impacting them. We thought about how we might be able to help!
The littles helped me sort the animals into their habitats!
I fell in love with a book written by S. Barroux, Where's the Elephant? I could not find it anywhere online and with the libraries closed, and places only shipping essential items I wasn't able to get the book. So I made my OWN version!!
The first pic is my inspiration book...you can click that to be directed to Amazon where you can purchase the book.
Click this pic below and you can see the book I wrote (very quickly so there are a few glitches (like mushrooms in the water he he) based on the ideas I had from Barroux's book!
There are not many words, you have to tell the story yourself! It's called Home :)
Homework: Make a list of all the living things in your backyard habitat! Don't forget the soil, the trees, and the birds flying overhead! Look closely! Get dirty!!!

I've started this page during the COVID break to help the kiddos continue learning at home. Most activities can be done with kids of all ages if parents vary the level of content, participation and discussion appropriate to each child! (differentiated instruction). Before the break we were at letter S. Visit our facebook page for letter A-R activities at https://www.facebook.com/evergreenacademy.ca/
